Chris Kelly's Slideshow on Offshore Racing and Preparation

Rebecca Davies, Tuesday, 27 July 2010

Chris Kelly presented an informative session on Offshore Racing and Preparation. Feedback continues to flow in with people commenting on the value of sharing such expansive knowledge and the value in taking every opportunity to learn for the experiences of others along with that gained from one's own time on the water. Chris has kindly forwarded his slideshow from the evening so that you may view the notes and take the opportunity to refresh or add to your knowledge some of that which was presented.

A link for the YWA Winter Lecture Series flyer is also provided so that you can keep a track of the topics, presenters and venues.

Rebecca Davies, Friday, 16 July 2010

Paul Eldrid of Evolution Sails Perth, presented an excellent and well received talk on Starting Tactics at Wednesday evening's Winter Lecture Series. Not only did he provide each and every one of us at the presentation with invaluable knowledge, he took the time to illustrate his points, create notes and explain the intricacies of Starting. Paul described various tactics in a range of starting conditions, positions and fleets. A talented helmsman and tactician, along with a knack for captivating an audience, Paul imparted his vast experience and knowledge to an appreciative audience. If you have any further enquiries to this presentation or series, please call Rebecca Davies at Yachting Western Australia 9386 2438 or email by clicking on this link.

'Thanks again for your excellent presentation last night, I'm looking forward to putting your methodology into practice and taking a more disciplined approach to improve my starting.'

'Thanks for your presentation last night - very informative and useful. I liked the idea of adjusting mast height out on the water. That would get our crew pretty focused!'

'Thoroughly enjoyed your presentation last night with some really good content for us to incorporate in to our race day procedures.'

Christ Church wins 2010 Australian Schools Team Racing

Monday, 12 July 2010
Western Australia's Christ Church Grammar School has won the 2010 Australian Schools Team Racing Championship which finished in Adelaide on Sunday.

Organised by Port River Sailing Club the 2010 Australian Schools Team Racing Championship attracted 13 schools from across the country with Christchurch Grammar defeating fellow West Australian's Scotch College three to one in the final.

The 2010 Australian Schools Team Racing Championship was held over four days but day three of racing was abandoned due to 40 knot winds with the organisers and teams working exceptionally well to complete 117 races, including the finals, in just three days.

"On the water the sailors all enjoyed themselves and the talent was very noticeable."

"This event would easily be one of the best Team Racing events that I've been involved in for some time," said Middleton.

After a tough opening round robin Christchurch Grammar had won 13 of their 15 races to give them a winning percentage of 86.67 per cent, ahead of Guilford Young College/St Virgil's College who won 11 of 15 at 73.33 per cent and St Joseph's won 10 of 15 at 66.67 per cent.

In the semi-finals Christchurch defeated St Joseph's and Scotch College were too strong for the combined Guilford Young College/St Virgil's College team.
